Music Academy

Music theory is the written language of music. Whether your child plays piano, violin, guitar or sings – learning to read music is an ESSENTIAL element of music education..

Through fun and motivating activities, students will experience playful ways of learning the FUNdamentals of music theory which covers all of the basics of note reading, rhythm, meter and musical terminology. Students will also find ways to connect what they are learning in the theory class to the pieces they are learning in their private lessons. This will accelerate their learning and provide an opportunity for all learning styles to excel.

Studies have shown that, from a very early age, music lessons can have profound long-term effects that include improved language development, higher standardized test scores in math, improved graduation rates, and even decreased likelihood of drug and alcohol use. Music is a wonderful conduit for learning, especially in young children. When paired with movement and instrument play, it creates neurological magic, lighting up a child’s brain and positively impacting all areas of development. The benefits of music education are truly transformational.

At orKIDstra Camp, young children build musical foundations that prepare them for future music learning and school readiness skills. Students will sing, move, and play a variety of instruments. They will experience movement and instrument exploration through musical concepts. Your child will be introduced to the sounds of orchestral instruments individually, and then in the context of an ensemble. Such a listening foundation will lead to long-term success with music reading in future classes.

Our curriculum is specifically designed to guide your child toward a lifelong enjoyment and understanding of music.

Guitar Camp offers guitarists of all levels an opportunity for real immersion and growth on the instrument in a friendly environment where people can sing, jam and share valuable musical information. Classes usually pace themselves to match the participants' abilities. No one gets left behind and no one gets bored. Campers learn more about the instrument, its history, nuances, and various playing methods and techniques. Different levels of instruction in a variety of styles including folk, classical, jazz, and rock are offered. The program covers chord technique, fingering technique, as well as solo and ensemble experiences. Students may use either acoustic guitars or electric guitars (you will need to bring your own amp.)
